Dear subscriber, 
 
The QUANHIST.RECURRENT list started in December 1994. The first task we 
undertook was to set up a "Catalog of major libraries" (it contains in 
particular the Internet addresses of the libraries). The catalog 
is available since April 95 in the list archives; it can also be obtained 
upon request from the list's editors. We believe it may be helpful to 
all those who are engaged in cross-national researches. 
 
Next, we would like to establish a bibliography of comparative studies 
in quantitative history that have been published in book form. 
Although only books will be considered at first, papers may be 
included in a second stage. In accordance with the list's 
objectives we shall restrict ourselves to studies that: 
(i) are "truly" quantitative, (ii) cover a period of at least fifty years 
and (iii) in which at least five different cases are compared. 
 
It remains to specify the parameters (for instance names of the 
countries, periods, type of data, etc) that ought to be 
listed in the survey. We hope this can be discussed on the list. 
 
As a first step we would like to know how many of our subsribers would 
be interested in taking part in this undertaking. Your collaboration 
may be quite occasional and limited: just by reporting on one or two 
titles in your own field of expertise, your contribution to the project 
may be quite useful.

IMPORTANT 
In recent times there have been some problems with  the delivery of the 
postings (especially outside the US); that's why we would be grateful 
if you could reply in any case. 
This will give us an opportunity to check the reliability of the 
postings' delivery.
