I believe I am right in saying that in Canada, at an rate, all land is still 
held as 'of' the Crown. Most of the land in Canada is still quite literally, 
Crown Land. Where, in settled parts, that is no longer the case, private 
property in land is tenure from the Crown at 'fee simple' (i.e., zero rent). 
But the Crown retains the right to resume any 'private' land that it may 
require under the law of eminent domain.
