A short research in the Internet provides many references on the
banning of the Jesuits, from Spain and its colonies, in  April 2nd, 1767
(by a decree known as "Pragmatica Sancion").  They had been banned earlier
also in Portugal (in 1759) and in France.

I have nothing to add to what Alain wrote on the Inquisition.
