EH.R: Responses to U.S. 2nd Industrial Revolution

I am looking for references to key articles or books about the following topic:

The various individual responses (particularly by U.S. natives) to the economic and social transformations of the Second IndustrialRevolution/Gilded Age. For example, entrepreneurial embrace of the new opportunities, clinging to one's traditional occupation in the same location, moving westward to maintain one's traditional occupation (e.g. small-scale farming). My interest is in the Northeast/New England states, and the upper Midwest.

Ideally the source would have percentage estimates of how many people
made one choice rather than another.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks.
