EHA Grants for Graduate Students in Economic History
The Economic History Association invites applications from graduate students doing work in economic history for the two types of grants listed below. Applicants must be members of the Economic History Association.
All application materials for these grants should be sent to Joyce Burnette, at burnettj at wabash.edu, by January 15, 2008.
1. Exploratory Travel and Data Grants
The exploratory travel and data grants are intended for graduate students who would like to write a dissertation in economic history but have not yet chosen a topic. The grants provide funding for specific research purposes (for example, visiting archives or purchasing microfilm or CD-ROMs) and will generally not exceed $2500.
The application should include:
A one-page CV including the name, home address, institutional affiliation, and contact information of the applicant.
A proposal describing the research topic and how the requested grant will facilitate the work. The proposal should not exceed three single-spaced pages, inclusive of any footnotes, tables, and bibliography.
A timetable for the completion of the work.
A budget specifying how the requested funds will be used.
2. Graduate Dissertation Fellowships
The purpose of the dissertation fellowship is to help graduate students who have an accepted thesis topic and have begun writing the dissertation to complete their dissertations. Awards are for $10,000 and are nonrenewable.
The application should include:
A one-page CV including the name, home address, institutional affiliation, and contact information of the applicant, the name of the chair of the dissertation committee, and any other relevant information.
A proposal describing the dissertation topic, the methodology used, the work accomplished to date, and a brief explanation of how the fellowship will facilitate completion of the thesis. The proposal should be no longer than five single-spaced pages, inclusive of any footnotes, tables, and bibliography.
Two letters of recommendation (sent separately). One letter must be from the chair of the dissertation committee. The application may also include a completed dissertation chapter.
