Dear John,

You might find it helpful to look over some postings from the H-German list; we ran a brief discussion about using digital cameras in the archives back in April 2006. Our discussion logs on H-NET aren't terribly easy to search, but these instructions will take you to the relevant posts:

1) Go to our home page at  http://www.h-net.org/~german/

2) Scroll down to the search box for "Search by Keyword" (on the left-hand side)

3) Enter "digital photography" and press the "Go" button.

That search will bring up a few relevant posts (not necessarily in chronological order).
