EH.R: Digital cameras for archival research

I am currently using a digital camera for research purposes; and have found
it a great advance over all other methods. I use a Canon SD600, with a 2g
memory card. I make a point of carrying an extra battery & memory card with
me (but have never been so lucky as to fill an entire memory card in a day!)

I simply photograph the material that I want, without tripod or any other
equipment. Although everyone's suggestions seem prudent, the quality of my
images is at least as high as if I had xeroxed them (not to mention cheaper
& lighter.)

My concern has been to keep the images catalogued, as I am shooting them. I
bring a handheld with folding keyboard with me to do so. - Whether that is
necessary depends on the nature of your sources.
