The U.S. Government Bond Trading Database, 1776-1835 is now available
on EH.NET.
Compiled under the supervision of Robert E. Wright (Stern School of
Business, NYU), the database contains 19 files and over a quarter
million loan office certificate and government bond (6s, Deferred 6s,
3s, other) transactions in 12 states over almost 6 decades.
Originally created to support _One Nation Under Debt: Hamilton,
Jefferson, and the History of What We Owe_ (New York: McGraw-Hill,
2008), the database should prove a valuable resource to economists,
historians, political scientists, and other scholars interested in
America's early economic, business, and political history.
For a description of the database and free data downloads in Excel or
csv formats, browse: http://eh.net/databases/govtbond/.
Anyone interested in housing a database of interest to economic
historians on EH.NET's website should contact Robert Whaples,
EH.NET's director, at whaples at wfu.edu.
