The European Historical Economics Society and the Review of Economic
History announce the first "fast track" workshop, to be held in Paris on
April 25-26, 2008. The idea of the workshop is to offer a platform for
the discussion of new ideas in European Historical Economics. We will
bring together junior and senior scholars, and will try to offer
detailed feedback on their manuscripts for scholars at an early stage of
their careers.
Junior scholars (those no more than 7 years out of graduate school) will
receive priority, but submissions from more senior scholars will also be
accepted. Those interested should send their paper Hans-Joachim Voth at
voth at mit.edu by February 21. Authors accepted to the fast track workshop will receive detailed feedback in the form of "referee reports" by March 21st at the latest. They must commit to circulating a revised version of their paper no less than one week before the workshop. At the workshop, the revised papers will be
presented by the authors. Senior scholars (EREH editors and other
members of the European Historical Economics Society) will act as
discussants. Inclusion in the fast track initiative involves a "right of
first refusal" for EREH, but an invitation to the workshop does not
imply a promise that a paper will ultimately be published. Final
revisions by the authors after the workshop should be completed within
2-3 weeks. We expect that revised papers will be processed rapidly after
the Paris workshop. The process will require a high level of commitment
from both authors and referees/discussants. If the initiative is
successful, EREH expects to hold additional workshops in the future.
Travel funding will be available for those who need it.
