The Business and Labour History Group, The University of Sydney 
invites you to attend two events presented by Professor Joe Martin, 
Rotman School of Management, The University of Toronto:

LECTURE ON
"The Evolution of Capitalism in Canada and Australia in the 20th 
Century - Lessons to be Learned"

As the seminar will have a light lunch and symposium will have a

Biography: Joe Martin, F.C.M.C., LL. D. [Honoris Causa]
Joe Martin is the first Director of the pioneering Canadian Business 
History program at the Rotman School of Management, University of 
Toronto. He is also an Executive in Residence and an Adjunct 
Professor. He has also led a successful campaign to raise $C3 million 
for the first chair in Business History at the University of Toronto.

Joe graduated with a B.A. Honours in History from the University of 
Manitoba. He joined P. S. Ross and Partners, a Management Consulting 
firm [now part of Deloitte Consulting], where he became a Partner 
then Partner in Charge of the Toronto office and finally Partner in 
Charge of Canada. In addition he chaired the Global firm's 
International practice. Active in the profession he was elected 
President of the Institute of Management Consultants of Ontario and 
made a Fellow of the Institute. He was also a President of the 
Canadian Association of Management Consultants and commissioned a 
history of the Association, "From Stop Watch to Strategy".

During his years with the Consulting firm he attended the Harvard 
Business School's Advanced Management Program. While active in the 
profession he contributed regularly to the University of Western 
Ontario's Business Quarterly, including an article on "W. L. 
Mackenzie King, Canada's First Management Consultant?" which was 
re-published in the International Journal of Management Consulting. 
He also contributed the occasional article to the Beaver, Canada's 
History Magazine.

In 1995 he left Consulting to join the Rotman Faculty and teach 
Strategy. That same year he received his Honourary Doctor of Laws 
from the University of Winnipeg.
