Call for Applications: GLOBALEURONET Visiting Fellowships Program

GLOBALEURONET, a Research Networking Programme in European economic 
history funded by the European Science Foundation (ESF), offers up to 
15 short-term residential Visiting Fellowships to be spent during the 
year 2008 at any University involved in the activities of the network. 
This Visiting Fellowships Program offers scholars ranging from PhD 
students and recent doctoral graduates to senior faculty, the 
opportunity to integrate their research into a wider scheme that aims 
to promote excellence, increase exposure to scientific assessment and 
enhance the creation of international research teams.

Research areas. Positions are open to scholars with research interests 
in the following areas of European economic history covered by the 
GLOBALEURONET programme:
- Long-run economic growth and convergence
- Historical national accounting
- Energy and economic growth in the long run
- Firms, technological innovation and growth
- Human capital, inequality and living standards
- Historical business cycles
- Historical economic geography

Host institutions. Fellowships can be spent only in institutions 
located in a European country other than the applicant's country of 
origin. Eligible host institutions are Departments, Institutes and 
Research Centres active in the GLOBALEURONET Programme:

Award amount. Fellowships include an allowance of 1,600 Euros per month 
plus reimbursement of travel expenses up to a maximum of 500 Euros.

Eligibility. Fellowships may be awarded to PhD students (Junior 
Fellows), doctoral graduates who obtained their PhD in the last four 
years—i.e. after September 2003 (Postdoc Fellows) and permanent faculty 
(Senior Fellows). -Junior and Postdoc Fellowships are open to PhD and 
postdoc students from any European country member of the ESF. 
Preference may be given to students from GLOBALEURONET contributing 
countries (Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, 
Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey), but 
we strongly encourage any interested student to apply irrespective of 
his/her nationality and academic affiliation. Fellowships are awarded 
for up to three months and can be renewed in subsequent years. -Senior 
Fellowships are open exclusively to faculty affiliated to universities 
and research centres located in GLOBALEURONET contributing countries 
(Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, 
Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey). They are 
awarded for up to one month and are not renewable.

Requirements. Grantees are required to be in residence at the host 
institution for the entire duration of the fellowships. They will 
participate in the academic activities of the host institution and will 
be given full access to its facilities. However, fellowships are 
incompatible with any teaching or administrative commitment at the host 
institution. Grantees will return to the institution of origin upon 
termination and will acknowledge GLOBALEURONET and the ESF in 
publications resulting from their work in relation with the Fellowship.

Applications. The deadline for applications for fellowships between 
January and December 2008 is November 5, 2007. Applicants should send:
-a curriculum vitae, including most recent publications;
-a project proposal (about 1000 words) outlining the proposed research 
project. Proposals must be consistent with the research areas covered 
by GLOBALEURONET, as indicated above. The application will also specify 
the preferred host institution(s) and month(s) of tenure. Applications

Assessment and selection. Selections are competitive and based on the 
likelihood of positive interactions between the Visiting Fellows and 
the host research team, and the degree to which both parties will 
benefit from the visit. The GLOBALEURONET Executive Committee will be 
responsible for the assessment of proposals and selection of grantees 
in consultation with the scientific coordinators of research areas and 
host institutions. Applicants will be notified no later than November 
30, 2007. In case of successful application, grantees will receive also 
full instructions about acceptance and reporting procedures.
