Oxford Journals is pleased to announce the forthcoming special issue 
of Oxford Economic Papers, which contains a collection of papers in 
Economic History. It represents some of the best work being done in 
the subject with articles ranging from the early 18th century to the 
mid 20th century. Some papers use historical data sets to test 
economic models, others use them to illuminate some aspect of 
economic history. All of the papers make a contribution to our 
understanding of past economies and several provide insights into the
