Call for Papers
Announcing the Third Conference of the South-Eastern European
Monetary History Network (SEEMHN)
hosted by the Bank of Greece
in Athens, Greece
on 14 March, 2008
Following the success of the First and the Second Annual Conferences
of the South-Eastern European Monetary History Network held in Sofia
(BNB) in 2006 and in Vienna (OeNB) in 2007, it is the great pleasure
of the Bank of Greece to host the Third Annual Conference in March
2008. This underlines the support of the Bank of Greece to this
network, whose main objectives are to extend the knowledge of the
economic history of the Balkans as an integral part of the
Pan-European experience with a specific focus on financial, monetary
and banking history.
One of the aims of SEEMHN is to establish a historical data base with
19th and 20th centuries financial and monetary data. The first stage
of the SEEMHN Data Collection Task Force included reports from all
participating countries; a set of aggregated data will be published
in the conference proceedings of the 2007 Annual Conference, to be
released by the Austrian National Bank later this year. Professor
Michael Bordo (Rutgers University) will contribute to the second
stage of this data collection effort.
The Third SEEMHN Conference will take place on March 14, 2008, in
Athens at the premises of the Bank of Greece. The topic of the
conference will be "Banking and Finance in South Eastern Europe:
Lessons of Historical Experience". Professor Michael Bordo has been
invited to deliver the key-note speech. The organizing committee
would like to invite all researchers from academia, central banking
and commercial banking institutions to submit paper proposals.
Summaries of the papers should be sent to Dr. Sophia Lazaretou
(slazaretou at bankofgreece.gr) no later than January 15, 2007. The
conference version of the paper is expected by February 29, 2008. It
is possible to participate at the conference without presenting a
paper.
Final versions of the presented papers will appear in the Working
Paper Series of the Bank of Greece.
