Abstract:
We are going to show a new image of modern Japan in the light of a
qualitative research of people's life. The age of menarche will be
discussed as an index to examine changes in the standard of living. The
"age of menarche" can be a good indicator for this because of the following
three reasons. Firstly, this kind of research has been carried out in
various domestic areas, taking wide-ranging age groups as an object.
Secondly, the age of menarche depends on physical growth. Thirdly, menarche
is the phenomenon that is quite rapid to react on the environment. Although
the image of people's life in modern Japan has been negative, we try to
revise "Japan in the dark age" in some part, suggesting that female' living
environment began to be improved greatly in terms of not only nutritional
but also working and mental situations.
