specialization in Economic History.
Short History of the Program
Graduate programs in the Department of Economics are designed to prepare
students for careers in academics, business, and government. Enrollment
has been kept small so that each graduate student can receive more
personal attention in his or her academic work. Faculty members strive to
remain readily available to students for discussions of their classroom
work and thesis research. Doctoral students participate in dissertation
workshop seminars. Seminar lectures are regularly given by speakers from
other universities and institutions. These seminars are frequently
followed by social hours that provide opportunities for students, faculty,
and visitors to become better acquainted outside the academic setting. The
Economics department has offered a specialization in Economic History
since the 1960s.
Students
Currently we have one student specializing in Economic History. We
have had two others in the past five years. The student currently working
on a dissertation in economic history has obtained a tenure track position
