EH.R: Responses to U.S. 2nd Industrial Revolution

I am looking for references to key articles or books about the following topic: The various individual responses (particularly by U.S. natives) to the economic and social transformations of the Second IndustrialRevolution/Gilded Age. For example, entrepreneurial embrace of the new opportunities, clinging to one's traditional occupation in the same location, moving westward to maintain one's traditional occupation (e.g. small-scale farming). My interest is in the Northeast/New England states, and the upper Midwest. Ideally the source would have percentage estimates of how many people made one choice rather than another. Any help is appreciated! Thanks. Mike McCully High Point University >
