Belatedly, and perhaps already mentioned, a passage from David Webster's _The Collapse of the Ancient Maya_ (Thames and Hudson, 2002), pp. 239-247 argues from familiarity with local evironments and the archaeological record against the 'megadrought' explanation for lowland Maya collapse. The latter is explored in Richardson Gill, _The Great Maya Droughts_ (University of New Mexico Press, 2000). >
