EH.R: Alfred Chandler's relatives
There is a treatment of Alfred Chandler's relation to both Henry Varnum Poor (who apparently was Chandler's great grandfather not grandfather) and to the Dupont chemical family in Thomas McGraw's introduction to _The Essential Alfred Chandler_ published by Harvard Business School Press in 1988. On p.7 of McGraw's intro, Chandler's relation to Henry Varnum Poor is mentioned along with how this led to Chandler finding a large collection of papers belonging to Poor. On p.16, footnote 21, McGraw mentions that contrary to common assumption, Chandler had no blood relationship with the Dupont chemical family although his family did have Dupont connections. His great grandmother was taken in by the Alfred Dupont family after her parents died, and she named one of her sons after this Alfred---and Alfred Chandler was the third generation name sake of this son.
