Below is an Excel file detailing how much revenue was collected, how much was spent, and how many people were employed at each of 152 customs houses in the United States in the years 1854 through 1859. The data are for fiscal years ending on June 30. The source is a U.S. Treasury report to Congress.
The dataset was scanned and corrected by Joseph Eros, an amateur student of Civil War history. Mr. Eros is currently a combat engineer stationed at Ft. Stewart, Georgia.
