Travel Agency City Tours: Eternautas Historical Trips
Eternautas - Historical Trips- is an Argentine company of cultural
tours created and directed by historians from the University of
Buenos Aires. We make different rides based on a central subject,
where history, culture and architecture are the main characters. This
conception provides, in an enjoyable and dynamic way, a deep
comprehension of the city and the Pampas area that surrounds it. All
our services are made only in one language (English, French,
Spanish), to prevent passengers from getting bored by translations,
and to let them make questions and give opinions. We move in air
conditioned vans.
Following is a list of some options. Please also visit Eternautas' website at www.eternautas.com/congreso.htm for dates, times and descriptions of scheduled tours for XIII Congress participants.
1. Images of Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires is undoubtedly the Latin American city that best
resembles the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the big European capitals.
But beyond this Buenos Aires there is another one, holding the small
colored houses of La Boca and the popular Tango that lives in San
Telmo streets. This is the mixture that makes Buenos Aires an
original and irresistible metropolis. This tour shows the city's
highlights, looking through its history and culture. 2. South Buenos Aires
Tango, immigration, football (soccer) and popular culture are the
main topics of this trip in an area with a special charm. The old
"conventillos" (tenement houses) in the artist quarter of San Telmo;
the origins of the labor movement; the abandoned factories and the
wall paintings of Barracas; the districts where tango music was born;
the port and the mythic stadium of La Boca. These are some of the
highlights of this tour around the
fascinating popular neighborhoods of Buenos Aires. 3. Buenos Aires and the Belle Époque
From 1871, the northern neighborhoods became the main place of
residence for the wealthy families, who gave an European appearance
to the zone. This tour goes back to the origins of the so called
"South American Paris", focusing on the old upper classes: their
Beaux Arts palaces (entering one), the art that was chosen by them,
the parks they made for their free time, the famous monuments of the
beginning of the 20th century and the impressive Recoleta Cemetery. 4.The other south: Hidden Buenos Aires
A tour around "forgotten" districts of Buenos Aires, far away from
the main tourist routes. Barracas, Nueva Pompeya, Parque Patricios
and Boedo hold amazing stories and terrific buildings: old factories,
wall paintings, secret societies, workers' dwellings, impressive
churches and traditional cafés. This is an astonishing trip to the
past & present of the popular neighborhoods, in which immigration,
labor movement, tango and popular literature play the main roles. 5. A day in the Pampas II : Areco
We go to to the old land of the gauchos in the ancient frontier with
the indian tribes: the area of San Antonio de Areco (1 1/2 hour from
Buenos Aires), a colonial town that has great buildings from the
early XXth century, when Argentina was having an economic boom. We
visit some of the wellknown artisans (leather, silver, textiles) of
San Antonio, who show us their workshops and how they produce.
Another option is a visit to the
Gaucho museum, that holds and interesting collection related to the
Pampas' history. We go to one of the exclusive estancias of the area
and have there a traditional lunch (a famous "asado criollo"
-barbecue- and homemade meals like "empanadas" -stuffed pastry-,
salads, ice-cream or fruit salad). We spend the rest of the day at
the estancia, walking in the beautiful gardens, riding horses,
witnessing the rural activities or birdwatching. There's also a
swimming-pool for Summertime. Before going back to BA we have tea or
coffee or the traditional "mate" witt homemade cakes and typical
Argentine bakery. |
