Description: EMU has awarded a high topicality to the question for the prerequisites for the realization of monetary unions. Arrangements of monetary integration aren't restricted to the 20th century. They aren't limited at Europe either. Economic history can therefore offer an independent contribution to the analysis of the conditions of success and the mode of action of different types of monetary integration. Economic history offers orientation lines for the future development of EMU.

Participants: Farley Grubb (USA); Jürgen Nautz (Germany/Austria); Krim Talia (Sweden); Nuno Valério (Portugal); Tal Sadeh (Israel); Jan Fidrmuc (Czech Republic); Lars Jonung (Sweden/Belgium). Chairs: Lars Jonung (Sweden/Belgium); Jürgen Nautz (Germany/Austria). Commentators: Michael Bordo (USA); Paul Thomes (Germany).
