ANNOUNCEMENT BY PROCONSUR

26 May 1998

On 20 May, PROCONSUR postponed until today its communiqui on the suspension of the Seville Congress in order to allow the Executive Committee of the I.E.H.A. to make a previous announcement. Some members of the Committee have indicated to PROCONSUR that the time allowed is insufficient. We publicly accept that this is true. PROCONSUR set the deadline at a moment of intense demand for information and without the benefit of any reference from the I.E.H.A., for which reason it was feared that it would not be possible to issue information before the situation deteriorated. We have therefore decided to act on these indications.

For months, PROCONSUR has been making efforts to guarantee the Congress and protect the interests of registered participants, and this is still our position today. We would like to be able to claim in a few days time that this attitude has contributed to the Congress going ahead as planned.

PROCONSUR would ask all of those registered to remain calm and bear with us, and we shall give full, detailed information as soon as the Executive Committee has taken its standpoint.
